NIER's research is focused primarily on the areas of Macroeconomics and Environmental Economics. In macroeconomics, one important part of NIER's work is the development of econometric models that are used, among other things, for medium-term analyses. In environmental economics, there is currently a project to develop environmental accounting as a complement to traditional national accounts. For this purpose, NIER has devised a model for analysing the environmental impact of such factors as economic growth, technological development, environmental regulation, and environmental taxes. The research findings are published in the series of reports entitled Working Papers, Reprints, and Environmental Accounting.
